Catching Waves: Low Flow Trapeze Exploration with Kat Saxon
Sunday, December 28
90 minutes · $65

“Catch Waves” is a workshop built on guided dance trapeze improvisation & exploration. A trapeze rigged closer to the ground gives Kat the creative freedom to play with modern and contemporary movement styles more comfortably, while also blending the aerial arts techniques she has been developing for fourteen years. She loves being able to give other artists the creative liberty to do the same, with a coaching style that focuses on building foundational skills that will get students comfortable working low to the ground. The different skills & flourishes they’ll be shown will help them break into & develop their own style of movement, helping them to feel uninhibited & free to play. These are all skills she personally cultivated on the hardwood floors of Challenge Aerial Atlanta and they include:
– Slides
– Spins
– Rolling around under the bar
– How to get from floor to air/air to floor with style
– Developing musicality, flow and personal style
By the end of this workshop, students will leave with a stronger intuition when it comes to movement. They will leave feeling empowered and emboldened, with a deeper connection to themselves, the dance trapeze, & their aerial artistry entirely.
Prerequisites: Intermediate level and upward, or at least one year of consistent dance trapeze experience.
A decent spin tolerance.
Comfortable rolling around on hardwood floors. (Students are allowed to wear knee pads if needed!)
Comfortable and familiar with flamenco wrap and rolling on the bar in hip hang, back balance and armpits.
An open mind! Once you learn how to use the trapeze at an unconventional low height, this workshop begins to focus on creative exploration and the best way to unlock new pathways and creativity within your own body is to let loose and let go!

Falling out of ground skills and Handstands
Tuesday, December 30
5:30pm · 75 minutes · $45

Have you ever thought about how to exit out of a skill you enjoy doing? What are the important parts of the body to avoid when we fall or bail out?

In this workshop will learn how to fall out of skills with spotting and crash mats for support. We will do a proper full body warm up and discussion before going into falling.

You will learn how to roll, tuck and roll (somersault) fish roll, shoulder roll and apply these by doing movements that require you to use those roll techniques.

When it comes to falling from an elevated stand point such as a box, short ladder and handstands, we will work on bailing out from a handstand with a wall, with a spot and handstand roll with crash mats. Some of the falls will be intimidating at first, but once we drill this multiple times you will gain a new sense of awareness using your body going forward.
Come ready to learn and most importantly have fun!!!
Pre-requisites:
-Students have a fear of falling
-Students want to learn creative movements
