“Up Is A Good Place:” The Marsh Studio Welcomes the Return of Canopy Studio
Tickets now available online!

Darien, GA – The Marsh Studio enthusiastically welcomes back live performance featuring a mix of aerial dance, spoken word, and ground-based dance.

Visiting aerialists from Athens, Georgia-based Canopy Studio, and The Marsh Studio’s founders Susan Murphy and Don Carson, proudly present “Up Is a Good Place” Saturday, November 18th at 4pm.

“Having the Canopy Repertory come down every year creates a link from Canopy’s past to present time and looking towards the future,” says Murphy. “What was a gleam in Don’s and my eyes when we envisioned and founded Canopy in 2002 has become a bright light in the Athens community. And now this talented, inventive, highly skilled, and expressive troupe will come again to the Marsh Studio, bringing with them their sparkling performances. They are my dance daughters and sons and granddaughters.  It has been and will continue to be a joy to be part of Canopy’s ever evolving presence as a movement arts and performance center in the Southeast.”

Over the years, members of Canopy’s Repertory Company have made the pilgrimage to the Georgia coast, performing in various shows, most recently in the “Love and Friendship Tour” in the Fall of 2022 and pre-pandemic “Duets from the Heart” in the fall of 2019 –  the last live performances to be held at The Marsh Studio before the COVID-19 pandemic. “Up Is A Good Place”  is a revival of Canopy’s Musical Revue coupled with reflection of our connections with each other. There truly will be something for everyone with the raucous celebration of sass of Broadway’s Six to the growth of love from Hadestown. Susan Murphy’s own two pieces will explore the renewed relationship with her hands, functionally and artistically,  as she recovers from a wrist injury. This exploration delves into the connection with the people around us which defines our community.

About the Marsh Studio

The Marsh Studio was built in 2009 by Susan Murphy and Don Carson.  The Marsh Studio has been a haven for aerial act creation retreats, workshops, classes and performances for aerial artists of all levels and aspirations. The constrictions of the pandemic for aerial dance retreats and performances have emboldened Susan to explore another art form. Using vintage stained glass pieces, she and her sister have created original suspended stained glass art pieces and mobiles.

About Canopy Studio

Founded in 2002 by Susan Murphy, Canopy Studio is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to enriching the culture of our community and the lives of individuals through flying dance trapeze, movement education, and performance arts. Canopy is a resource for artists and all individuals, regardless of background, age, or physical ability, providing instruction in movement arts and a much-needed venue for viewing and participating in performances. Our partnerships with artists of all mediums help to build links to creators and teachers in communities everywhere, bringing new performances and learning opportunities to Northeast Georgia.

The Canopy Repertory Company forms the backbone of the organization, teaching classes and workshops and presenting two major performances a year. With over 90 classes offered each week plus workshops, student performances and community outreach – the Canopy staff, teachers, and Repertory Company work to continue the generosity of spirit and commitment with which the organization began.
