Canopy Studio, one of the Southeast’s largest aerial dance studios, and the Repertory Company, Canopy’s professional performance company, are excited to bring back live performance with the presentation of “20” on April 22-24, 2022. “20” will be a celebration of the last 20 years of aerial dance in Athens through a numerological exploration and the first in-person Repertory Company show inside the building since November of 2019.

“20” will include performances from the current Repertory Company members, as well as the advanced teen program, and welcomes back numerous special guests. Susan Murphy, the founder of Canopy Studio, will be joining long-time past Repertory Company member, April Skelton. Nicole Mermans, a founding member of Canopy Studio, will be performing, as well as past Repertory Company members Chris Knightes, Tiffany Holder, Katie Schmidt, and Carlynn Kenna.

A first for a Repertory Company show, all special guests will join the current Repertory Company on the floor for a dance trapeze group performance. “We are so ecstatic to be able to dance in the air again with our friends and mentors,” says Ann Woodruff, Canopy’s Executive Director and Repertory Company Co-Director. “And not just within the same show. We sent out choreography to all of our guest aerialists for them to learn remotely to be able to join us in one giant group piece.”

Five shows are scheduled – Friday at 8:00pm, Saturday at 4:00pm and 8:00pm, and Sunday at 2:00pm and 6:00pm. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for students, and $10 for children 10 and under. Tickets may be purchased online at canopystudio.org or at the door as available. Doors will open 30 minutes before the start of each showtime. Masks will be required unless otherwise announced, and there will be a slightly reduced occupancy indoors.
